As spring is rapidly approaching we felt it would be beneficial to give some easy ordering ideas and food for thought concerning outdoor window coverings.
Nature is brutal, as we all know. First and foremost we must have realistic expectations of our soft treatments and the hardware that we use outside. Wind, solar, and rain damage WILL occur. Here are a few quick Do’s and Don’t about planning for outdoor hardware.
Do specify whether the project is in a covered space or open space. Our standard outdoor finish is our standard finishes but with a double application of sealer. For applications that may see more of the elements we recommend our powder coating option.
Don’t forget your tiebacks! Tiebacks are a smart addition to any outdoor space. With the wind swirling around the first thing it will grab is your drapery panels. Tiebacks help to keep those “wannabe” kites from winding up on your neighbors lawn. Here is a link to our tieback page. If your looking for something unique just send us an idea and we can make it.
Do choose the proper number of brackets. Because outdoor treatments receive more abuse than indoor treatments it may require a few extra brackets. Give us a shout and we can walk through the process of determining the proper number of brackets for you application.
Don’t put yourself in a position where you are pulling your draperies by hand. Give yourself some help by ordering wands. Here is a link to several of our wand options. Wands will help relieve stress on the hardware from the day to day drawing of draperies.
And one last Don’t….
Don’t hesitate to ask questions. Feel free to contact us about any concerns you may have about your next outdoor project. If it is project that you need helping planning and measuring we will be happy to help with that as well.
